Degradation in the north is not abstract: it is the loss of tree cover on farmland within living memory. The work is about putting trees back in ways that farmers have a reason to keep.
Community nurseries are central. A nursery run by a youth group produces seedlings, income and an interest in the trees surviving their first dry season.
